FS2002 Belgian Air Force Thunderstreak F-84F

How to fly the F-84F 'Thunderstreak'
------------------------------------

All keyboard commands are given for AZERTY first and QWERTY second if different

Startup
-------

- Open cockpit (Shft e)
- Set parking brakes (Ctrl ;) (Ctrl period)
- Turn on electrical power (Shft m) (Shft ;)
- Turn fuel feed on (Ctrl Shft F4)
- Start engine ( j then hold = untill ignition)
- Turn all lights on ( L )
- Turn radios on: mouse click on Radios Master On
mouse click on DME On
mouse click on DME 2
- Close cockpit (Shft e)
- Apply one click of flaps (F7)
- Parking brakes off (;) (period)

Taxi
----

Taxi with 70% RPM
Keep speed between 10-15 knots with brakes

Takeoff
-------

- Apply full brakes (;) (period)
- Apply full throttle (F4)
- Release brakes at 90% RPM
- Rotate at 160 knots: bring horizon just below the bottom of the HUD and keep it there
- At positive climbrate: gear up (g)

As all planes in FS2002 start with a trim setting that is too low, start trimming up as soon as possible till no stick back pressure is needed.

- At 220 kots: flaps up (F5)
- At 300 knots: bring throttle midrange 80-85% RPM

Enroute
-------

These plane were flown at 80-85% thrust setting.
At 80% the plane will settle at 300 knots
At 85% the plane will settle at 410 knots

Landing
-------

At downwind or long final
- Set thrust at 85%
- Apply airbrakes to reduce the speed to 270 knots; close airbrakes (:) (/)
- Apply one click of flaps (F7)

Notice the negative pitch effect but increase in lift.
Counteract with stick and trim to remain level

Speed will start to increase so insert 2th click of flaps (F7)
Counteract negative pitch

Negative pitch is the result of an aircraft with swept wings and a positioning of a center of gravity far in front of the plane of the flaps.

- Speed will decrease to 220 knots
- Turn base; 30°bank level flight
- Turn final; 30° bank level flight
- Gear down (g)
- Full flaps; counteract negative pitch (F8)
- Speed will decrease to 180 knots

Do not descend too soon. We will need at least a 3° glide slope to maintain final speed.
Wait untill you see the threshold below the middle of the HUD.

- Set a descent of 750 ft/min
- Set throttle to 80% to maintain 170-180 knots
- If descent is steep, use airbrakes to maintain speed

Short final
-----------

- Keep threshold at 25% from the top of the HUD
- Apply airbrakes at 100ft AGL
- Throttle idle and flare at 30ft AGL
- Bring horizon to 1/3th from the bottom of the HUD without loosing negative VSI
- Keep horizon in this position after touchdown to brake aerodynamically
- Nose will drop at 80 knots
- Apply full wheelbrakes (;) (period)

Taxi and shutdown
-----------------

- Taxi to parking spot
- Close airbrakes
- Raise flaps
- Set parking brake (Ctrl ;) (Ctrl period)
- Turn off all lights (L)
- Shut off fuel flow (Ctrl Shft F1)
- Open cockpit (Shft e)
- Turn off electrical power (Shft m) (Shft ;)

Now get out of there and have a brewski!!
